BEGGING FOR MAMA’S MILK.
So much begging on daily basis go on in our dear country Nigeria.
“Abeg abeg”, “biko”, “ejoo” beggars say, some even go to the extent of singing, dancing etc just to please and obtain alms, what a world?
When people “Beg,” it is for what by right they do not and can not have but needed for survival.
The open pride of the alms “giver” for being too kind and the wild excitement in appreciation by the “receiver” so that he would be given another time is the sole of begging.
If the “giver” refuses to go out of his way to give when begged, he is not guilty of any offence and the beggar would only have to walk away in any mood he chooses.
On the other hand, when we directly or indirectly but legitimately own a thing, we don’t “Beg” for it but “Ask” when in need of it. A son asks the father for his school fees, a baby asks the mum for breast milk and children do not beg their parents for food. By right they own it and receiving it doesn’t necessarily call for jubilation as in the above.
If all things being equal a father refuses his son food, he is guilty and the son has every right to question this decision, he can even draw out other measures to obtain it because he has a right to it.
How about a situation, where we have to “Beg” for what by every justification is ours? It can be likened to a baby begging for his mama’s breast milk, “the beggar of its own”.
For whom is the milk?
This clearly describes the condition of Nigeria today.
Nigerians begging for mother Nigeria’s milk, its a pity.
In Nigeria today, where our governors put large bill board at junctions, showing themselves the “messiah”, announce and advertise in all mass media, calling themselves the most humane for constructing road(s) in their capital cities, building of ultramodern government house and even hosting of Mr. president from the state’s purse clearly indicates that we “the public” are begging .
Also, the kind of excitement and fulfillment in the miseducated public which follows after those things as in the above, simply tell that we are “beggar of its own”.
A governor that has not gone the extra mile to serve his people has no reason(s) to beat his chest an achiever, he does not worth our ceremonious support and even all those merit awards.
Who is serving who in this country?
My fellow Nigerians, when shall we “Ask” for our own?
When shall we stand for our rights?
Until we start asking, we remain beggars.
The very slow development of Nigeria is because we have refused to “Ask” for our own,
Even the Bible says “ask and u shall receive”.
Any country that has “Asking” citizens, if not developed is not far from development because her government, for the hunger of approval and recognition, would go the extra mile.
They would dip into their personal purse to satisfy,
They will not be wasteful,
Their programs will be public oriented and
They will not launder money.
Stand, Stand oh Nigeria and Ask for your own.
Shall we all stand?
