Ukraine is a unitary state located in the south of Central Europe. There are twenty four regions that named “oblast” are included into that country, but there are also two urban areas which are considered to be separate districts: the metropolis of Ukraine – Kiev and Sevastopol. The consequence of the orange revolution that took place in 2004, is that Ukraine has got the status of semi-presidential republic. Nowadays the system of government in that country has a quite interesting structure: the power is redistributed between several branches of authority. Ukraine borders on Bulgaria, Romania, Poland, Moldova and Hungary form the west, Turkey form the south; the Russian boundary is the longest one it is from North and East.
The country is in the main woodless plain with mountains in the Crimea and low Carpathian Mountains. River Dnieper flows through the imaginary center of Ukraine and divide it into two nearly equal parts. There is a great deal of hydroelectric power plants are situated on river Dnieper. Every winter there is much snow here but the climate is quite mild and temperature is not so low. The rain is frequently observed in summertime commonly but in general, summers are quite hot.
Thanks to favorable conditions, Ukraine is known for its quality soils and well developed agriculture. Ukraine is considered to be one of the largest exporters of sugar. In common, the country produces a lot of produce: maize, corn, vegetables, fruit, etc. Kiev is the metropolis of Ukraine and the biggest city of this country. It dates its history since the 5th century. That was the little town which became the center of Slavic civilization in the Eastern Europe. The decrease of development of Kiev was caused by the Mongolian incursion in the 13th century, the city was completely destroyed for a quite long period. Significant impact on the development was produced by the foundation of the Soviet Union.
The Ukrainian Soviet Republic assisted Kiev to recover completely. The population of Kiev is raising at a high speed and according to the census info in 2003 it was nearly 3 million people. We may not even approximately estimate the amount of various ethnic groups that are included into this wonderful city. More than 120 ethnic groups live there. During the 70s and 80s, the city saw stable growth in population which in turn reflected in the improvement of real estate. Among yellow and white blocks of flats appeared new downtown buildings. During several last years Kiev has gained the status of full-fledged European city with a number of expensive restraints and luxury hotels.
Statistics says that the average salary in Kiev rose significantly for last six years. That means the economy of Ukraine becomes more and more constant and powerful. All the countries included into WTO are willingly inviting Ukraine to become a member of this organization.
