When you live in a city that practically seems alive at night, such is the case of Sydney or Melbourne, it is impossible not to be attracted by such a lifestyle. It does not matter if you want to take your girlfriend out on a date, treating her with a romantic candlelight dinner of if you are just hungry and want to grab a burger. The Australian nightstyle is for all those who don’t feel like cooking, wanting to enjoy a taste of the late night restaurants.
Late night restaurants are always present in the night life of major cities worldwide, from London to New York to Shanghai and of course to those in Australia (Melbourne, Sydney or Queensland). Just like in the case of regular restaurants, there are many subtypes of late night restaurants, suitable for all kinds of budgets, tastes and most important timing.
When it comes to late night restaurants, fast-foods hold the top place in terms of popularity. Fast-food restaurants represent a low cost alternative and offer you the posibility to satisfy your hunger any time of the day, whether you have a craving for hamburgers in the middle of the night or you are working night shifts.
The fast-food phenomenon as we know it today has its place of origin in the USA, but globalization has helped to its expansion worldwide. McDonald’s golden arches logo can be spotted in every nighstcape in every major city, including Perth, Adelaide or Tasmania. Its unsophisticated menus can be ordered anytime, anywhere in the world. Apart from MacDonalds, there are other fast–food chains like KFC or Burger King, that offer the customer all the convenient options of late night restaurants.
Opposite to the fast-food restaurants, there are the more expensive and sophisticated late night restaurants, among which those that are Michelin rated hold the top places These high-brow late night restaurants are more suitable if you want to impress your date or if you want to try an exquisite culinary experience, rather than just gulp something on the run in order to quench your thirst and hunger. But let us make no mistake. Even if these are late night restaurants, the waiting list can be very long and don’t expect to just show up somewhere in such a place without prior reservation.
Expensive or more affordable, restaurants are by definition places where you take a meal. Sometimes an alcoholic drink goes with this meal, but this is more problematic, especially in the case of late night restaurants. Having alcoholic beverages in restaurants is subject to certain restrictions and regulations, just like the 24 hour bars.
These rules and regulations concerning alcohol consumption in late night restaurants and alcohol consumption in general vary from culture to culture., from one geogrpahical area to another and even from country to country. In terms of cultural differences, the Islamic world is probably the most strict but Australians have also a fixed set of rules that must be obeyed.. However, there are some exceptions that apply most often in the case of tourists and foreigners.
Having one of the great drinking cultures worldwide, Australia seems to have impressed everyone with its 24 hours bars, open all night and offering the greatest diversity of bevarages, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. They completely respect the rules set for drinking and they allow tourists to enjoy the diversity of their bars, restaurants and entertainment centers. Far from being restrictive, they demonstrate that being drunk is not the same thing with savoring an exotic drink in one very hip bar. Others have certainly got a lot to learn from the 24 hour bars and late night restaurants Aussies are so proud of!
