The world has been the sole witness of every generation’s success or failure, from which she profited in those triumphs or a victim of experimentation. Whichever of these she have earned, it resulted to an eagerness to make methods, practices and formulas better and easier.
The civilization of man dawned its incomparable intelligence, thus resulting to the modern era we are living in now. From hand signals, smoke signals, drumbeat signals to the invention of written language and speech. From earth and stick to the stylus and papyrus, to the parchment and stone tablets eventually to the modern paper and pen which in the long run resulted to the invention of the typewriter, printing press and newspaper from which mass printing emerged due to the need of mass information-dissemination. Moreover as communication advances, catching up with man’s fast paced living, the telephone, telegraph and the computer were joined together becoming smaller gadgets and much powerful tool to meet need, convenience and schedule.
Today, the youth was given the chance of performing their task with these powerful tool and gadgets, making them a stronger generation from those that passed. They have the power to reach out further, the power to achieve fact and information immediately, the power to do moves in the same instant and most of all, the power to be united as one. However, this is not what’s happening right now. Although some youth take this chance to help achieve a better world, still, this number is only a portion of the total youth population. Most are just enjoying the pleasure these gadgets can give, thinking, “never mind the world, I’m locked in cyberspace, dealing with my cyberfriends,” although his real world is in chaos.
People use the cyberworld as an escape goat from reality. Casting away real problems and ignoring their outcomes.
We often see the wonders of these gadgets around us but we only see the pleasure it brings. If we look further, these gadgets can be our tools in creating a better world, better society and more, a better individual among ourselves.
The television has been our window to our neighboring countries and even the other side of the world. We could reach out to those who are in need and be inspired from those who succeed. We could also show the world our glory and slump. The computer made us travel in the information super highway where learning has been given an unlimited access to the best schools, libraries, resources and references around the world. Telephones and cellular phones shortened the gap among families, relatives and friends living in the different sides of the world.
However, it seems these power bestowed on us has been ignored. How? The intelligence we might achieve and the unity we could gather are wasted. There are problems around us waiting to be resolved but we pay no attention to them saying to ourselves, “let the adults find a solution, it’s their job to make a better world to live in.”
Did we ever consider our part? The once believed “hope of the country” thrashing their opportunity to make a difference.
Let us all act now! It is not yet too late to make some moves. Let’s use our cellular phones to discuss problems around us, let’s use the internet to find similar problems and analyze how the people resolved their quandaries and consider some things we could use to resolve our own dilemma. Let us all be united in carrying out these plans and put them into action. Let us prove to the world that we are not lazy and unproductive but intelligent members of the society using modern tools in making a difference as we build an improved society. Together, we’ll make a huge transformation.
As the song goes, We are the children of yesterday’s dream. We are the promise of the future we being, waving the banner of love to all, serve every nation, the rich and the poor. We are the world of the restless and young and we need a hand to guide us, we’ll help each other, build each other as long as we’re together you and me. For together we stand, divided we fall, together we’ll climb to the top of the world, we can be what we want for the world to see, coz we are the children of yesterday’s dream.
