During former competitions only those athletes that were caught abusing of some of the substances were banned and or punished, but that has now changed and it now applies to the whole list.

Perhaps one of the most effective and best ways is to help enforce the strictness of drug abuse; there will be much more random tests performed than in the past and no athlete will be permitted to miss more than one test.

The games are programmed to start on the 8th of August and will come to an end on the 24th of the same month. However, the measures will be put into effect on the 27th of July, which is the day the Athletes Village will open in Beijing.

This whole situation arose after the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) cautioned and informed athletes that the intake human growth hormone (HGH will not be permitted. The following day the IOC decided to make its statement and John Fahey, former Australian finance minister, stated that an improved test for the forbidden substance will detect a lot more tricks than ever before and even made a direct warning to those who in fact consume the drug.

Nonetheless, there are those who believe that the improvement is insignificant if any at all. According to Peter Sönksen, an emeritus professor of endocrinology at St Thomas' Hospital in London, it is the same old test that is said to be little effective, and they have simply revised it as commercial product and consists of a new kit for the former test.

Sönksen has studied HGH for more than forty years and believes the best way to detect any sort of cheating is by performing more testing without notice and out of competition to catch any type of substance abuse.

HGH occurs naturally in the body and is produced by the pituitary gland in the brain and stimulates the growth of muscle, cartilage and bone. This process takes places throughout the human beings lifetime but is more abundant during youth.

Athletes use it to gain more strength, burn off fat and better stamina but due to its natural presence in the body it makes it hard to detect and easily let out of the body. Urine samples may only detect it from 24-72 hours after taken, but Sönksen may have discovered a blood test that could detect it for up to two weeks after taken.

True athletes should not take anything to help better their performance and should participate using their own natural strength, intelligence and talent but for those who may think about using it I would definitely give it a second thought before heading over to China!
