Lionel Messi, the Argentinean football player and FIFA's number three choice of the year’s best player candidates affirmed he still has plenty to learn about football holding his trophy last Monday in Zurich.

After being asked if he was Maradona’s successor the FC Barcelona player said. ''The only thing I do is to try to improve each day by constantly growing and leaning, there is a lot remaining''.

‘’The only thing I want is to continue helping my team without thinking about comparisons'', added Messi, who finally traveled to the Swiss city after the Barcelona’s medical team allowed him to go; he suffered a left thigh femoral biceps break last Sunday during the game his team won 3-0 in Valencia.

Messi will be absent from the field around four to five weeks. Messi will not be part of the list of players on Sunday in the Spanish traditional rivalry game against the Real Madrid at the Camp Nou.

''The truth is one is not well when you have to live this type of situations. It is never good to be injured specially for such an important game. This already happened to me when I was injured in 2006; therefore I am used to it and calm, said Messi.

The 20 years-old player is the youngest among the three FIFA’s contenders as the Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo and the Brazilian Kaká, the other two candidates, have 22 and 25 years, respectively.

For Messi, his most precious memory of the year was during the game at the Camp Nou against the Real Madrid; the Catalonian team was beneath in the scoreboard but managed to draw (3-3) with a hat-trick of the Argentinean player. ''It's a very pretty memory'', Messi stated with a big smile on his face.

He tells he never thought to be among the three best World football players “I never imagined to be here. Is an enormous happiness. But once I began to play in the first division I thought always in keep growing in the sports world. First, one must think in growing and then the recognitions arrive'', Lionel said.
