The English rookie driver Lewis Hamilton was the 2007 new sensation in the Formula One, while the Finnish Kimi Raikkonen became the world champion. Unfortunately for Hamilton’s team - McLaren-Mercedez - many negative aspects also were sensation in 2007.

This year’s championship was as exciting and competitive as it was violent and disgraceful, as the McLaren team became the center of an espionage controversy.

Just to mention some of McLaren’s problems thorough out the year there are; espionage accusations, a 100 million dollars fine imposed to the team, internal affairs between the main drivers, point subtraction and appeals.

Ironically, McLaren could have earned all but instead the team entered a drama scene despite of being one of the most prestigious motor-racing teams, they were humiliated and forced to recognize their wrong doings.

On the other hand, Ferrari celebrated Raikkonen’s triumph; he was a former McLaren driver.

McLaren then released Fernando Alonso the main driver from the team due to his involvement in the espionage case; the Spaniard will be driving in the next F1 Championship for Renault.

Espionage cases
The discovery began when an anonymous photocopies store employee close to the McLaren factory in Woking, England, notified Ferrari that someone had copied a 780 pages report that contained technical and secret information of the Italian motor-racing team. That person ended up being Mike Coughlan's wife, McLaren's leader design. McLaren was fined and despoiled of all the points obtained in the Builders Championship during the year.

Nigel Stepney, Ferrari’s representative, also handed over secrets to the Italian’s main rival McLaren while another situation was reaching boiling point; the Alonso-Hamilton rivalry which became public very quickly as Alonso pressed on the issue in every chance he had.

Ferrari's Triumph
While the recent case was still being investigated the Ferrari team had assured the Builders Championship due to McLaren losing all of their points. Ferrari’s driver Raikkonen also took the crown which once belonged to the seven times champion Michael Schumacher by overcoming the two McLaren driver who were among them fighting individually.

BMW-Sauber emerged as the third team of the season with the German drivers Nick Heidfield and Robert Kubica. It is expected the 2008 F1 season will be very interesting as the pieces get aligned a new rivalries show while on the fast lanes.
