You’re probably not in for a bit surprise, but you’re certainly in for a pleasant one. Everyone knows how nice it is to spend the day in the great outdoors and just when you need to take a breather, there’s a comfy, sturdy wooden picnic table there to suit all your needs.

Pub and bar gardens, parks, beaches, woods and school playgrounds across the land have picnic tables in them, but they aren’t limited for use solely in public picnic spots. A picnic table situated in the back garden of a home means the owner always has somewhere to sit, eat or just enjoy a few drinks with friends.

A picnic table typically has build in bench seats, meaning that when you want to move the table to a different spot, you only need to move ONE piece of furniture rather than a table and four separate chairs. Even for the disabled or very young, a picnic table can still be used as it is open at two ends. The user can just pull up a wheelchair or highchair and carry on eating as if in his or her own dining room.

Most picnic tables are crafted using wood, which blends in perfectly in outdoor surroundings, whilst still managing to look natural. The natural resins contained in Cedar wood make it the perfect material for outdoor cedar furniture as they protect the wood from rot, mould and even repel insects such as moths, termites and ticks. Another wood commonly used for picnic tables is cypress, which has similar qualities to cedar.
All woods can be treated and varnished to change the colour in order to match the customer’s taste and to match their surroundings. Applying a wood treatment will further protect the wood from water damage, fungi and rot.

The typical picnic table is simply a rectangular table with two seater benches along each of the long sides. The benches attach to the table at each end next to the legs, and most picnic tables have a plank underneath the table, which can be used as a handy footrest.

Other styles of picnic table include ones that are just a table with two or more separate matching benches that can be placed wherever desired. With these types of picnic table, the table does not have to be square or rectangular, but can be round.
Another is the bar style table, which has detached stools and a high table.

Most picnic tables have a simple hole in the middle of them for a parasol. This means that a picnic table can become a respite from the harsh summer sun and a quiet area when all kinds of activities are going on in the garden.

With so many available styles, colours and finishes available for picnic tables it is guaranteed that there is one suitable for every occasion. A wooden picnic table gives an attractive and practical touch to a garden and can bring a fun and alternative experience to family meals and parties.
