ALL THE THINGS MY DADDY NEVER DID
1. My daddy never did hit or cuss at me. He believed in trust, compassion, and respect. This is the only discipline I know.
2. My daddy never did stand up to my momma. He always stood beside her. They walked hand in hand, side by side. This is
the only way of marriage I know.
3. My daddy never did have a "Boys Night." He said that they always seemed to interfere with the "Family Nights." This is the
only way to prioritize that I know.
4. My daddy never did love me as much as my little sister. He always loved us equally but in two completely different ways.
Most men can only love one way but my daddy was great enough to love in many different ways so we each got all we
deserved. This is the only way to love that I know.
5. My daddy never did walk out on us. He always came running when we needed him. His back was never turned on us, only
ever used to shelter us from the hardness of the world. This is the only way to commit that I know.
6. My daddy never did buy me that expensive red convertible. He did buy my first three junkers that I ended up wrecking. He
always came to get me when I broke down with a tuna fish sandwich in one hand and a knowing grin on his face. This is the
only way to support I know.
7. My daddy never did believe in me. He knew what was in me. He said that there was no reason to believe in greatness when
you know where greatness exists already. This is the only way to believe I know.
8. My daddy never did tell my momma all he bad stuff I did. He stood with me as I told her myself and then hugged us both.
This is the only truth I know.
9. My daddy never did strike it rich. He always went without so we could have more. He thinks his richness is shining in us.
This is the only value I know.
10. My daddy never did get to do a lot of things. For this I am grateful because if he did do things differently, my children
would not have a strong foundation of love and family. We would all be lost and wounded. It is not the things you do that you are remembered for but the things you did not do that become your legacy.

About the Author
While this is a true accounting of all the things my daddy never did, it is written with a twist of unexpected irony. I am a mother of two young boys and have finally settled in a wonderful relationship. I have gathered some life experiences in a short time. I must confess that a lot of my knowledge was learned the hard way. Most people would say that they are defined by 'what my daddy did for me.' I have discovered that I am defined in my life by what my daddy didn't do. After reading this accounting I hope that you shall see that the things that my daddy didn't do is the reason that I am the parent I am, as most of you are too.
